CSA coming to your neighborhood soon!

Last year we joined the Chelsea CSA (Stoneledge Farm) for a number of reasons. Most importantly we wanted REAL organic veggies for the baby-on-the-way, we wanted to support a local farmer and we wanted to eat more veggies.

This year I'm even more exited about our CSA (starts next Tuesday!) because I know what's in store. First we'll be getting tons of lettuce that I'll snack on and Alex will blanch, next their will be zucchini & carrots and the season will end with lots of tomatoes and squash. This year we'll be making baby food with our share and probably freezing & canning more than we did last year.

When you join a CSA you also meet like minded people (most CSAs make you volunteer a bit) who just want to eat mouth watering good vegetables. Believe me when I say that a lot of the vegetables at the market (even the fancy markets) are crap. Vegetables can be crisp, full of taste and nutrition when they aren't sprayed with a bunch of chemicals, packaged in plastic and shipped across the country. AND...that's all I'm going to say about that right now.

Anyway - this is just a nice read about tips for getting the most out of your CSA and a link to learn more about CSAs in your neighborhood.

My Grandpa was a very hard working farmer in Northern Minnesota. He farmed all of his life, even after losing one of his legs. I remember riding the tractor, picking eggs and running around the barn checking out the cows & equipment. It's a shame that small local farmers are almost unheard of these days, besides ones supported by the community. If you can afford joining a CSA it's definitely worth your time and money.
