5 Months of Supper Club

Supper Club 2010 is off to an excellent start or half-a-year, unlike this blog. I wanted to list details about everyone's supper club, but the way I went about it wasn't the best. I emailed folks way after they hosted their supper and asked for recipes, pictures and advice, but that's not as easy as it sounds when you have to dig up an old recipe from a great aunt or especially if you made-up all the recipes and didn't take any pictures.

Anyway, now I'm going to take the pictures myself and get as many details as possible, while at the suppers. I should have realized this 5 months ago, but moving on.

In-short here are the suppers that have been served in 2010 so far:

1. January - Roxanne hosted her Supper Club in her Queens home, which has an actual dinning room and dinning room table. Fancy. This was the perfect setting since 17 people showed up. She served a "Slightly Asian" cuisine with ample variety and delicious flavors. My favorite part about this evening was sitting back as watching everyone talk up a storm. I was so excited that a couple of new members actually new each other. It was pretty magical! Roxanne answered my questions about hosting so I'll be posting them next.

2. February - Rachael, Kelsey and Angela hosted their Supper Club at their huge loft in Brooklyn. I think around 10-12 people ended up showing up, which was the perfect amount since they used every single chair in their apartment. They made a lighter fare with scrumptious salads and tasty drinks. Angela (one of Rachael's new roommates) joined the festivities that night and is now an official member. Just goes to show you that anything can happen at Supper Club...well not anything, but I do flex the rules here and there. My favorite part of this night was calling Colleen asking if she was going to make it. Her and Kevin were sitting on the couch doing nothing! They totally forgot (they both work a ton and are planning their wedding)! Anyway, they hoped in Kevin's car, got stuck in traffic, but still ended up making it. It was a great surprise.

3. March - Bethany and Elizabeth hosted their Supper Club at Bethany's apartment in Brooklyn. They served homemade pizza and about 5-7 people showed up...honesty I'm not too sure on the number, but that's my guess. I didn't end up making to this supper, but Alex (hubby) said the pizza was delish (again, not sure on his exact words and I do not think he has ever said the word delish) and that they played Apples to Apples. For those of you who have never played Apples to Apples, it's this great game where you have to pick a card in your had that best describes the card (an adjective) that is placed on the table...and then you vote. It's great - learn more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apples_to_Apples. For the smaller attendance number, it sounds like they had a great time and made the best of it.

4. April - Colleen, Kevin and Mariah hosted Supper Club at Kevin's Apartment in Midtown West. Mariah actually couldn't make it because her dog has been under the weather and she didn't want to leave her all alone in CT. Yep Mariah commutes to Supper Club! This supper was a little bit up in the air because Colleen was stuck in London for a week because of the volcano in Iceland. Anyway, Colleen got back in time and Supper Club went on. Roxanne and Rachael were the only two that were able it, but I think they had a great time catching up and chilling. I'm not sure if it's because the supper was on a Saturday or if everyone was working long hours in April (like me at TFF), but it has been a tough month to host. I think for the past 2 years Supper Clubs in April have been canceled. But say no more to canceled suppers whether the weather (or volcano) Supper Club will prevail!

5. May - Jay and Michelle hosted their Supper Club at Jay's apartment in Long Island City. He has a dishwasher and a balcony so it's pretty fancy. They served a comforting and tasty Southern Cuisine for about 12 people. So Yummy! They started with boiled peanuts (first I've tried this) and watermelon with a fancy drink. I heard the drink was great but I couldn't try because I'm preggers :). Next they served a spicy bean salad with chips, root beer pulled pork and cheesy potatoes (I can't remember the actual name, but they had red peppers, lots of cheese and I had 2 1/2 servings). THEN...they topped it all off with a homemade key lime pie! See this why I need to write about these supper clubs a couple of days or weeks later - I can actually recall what we ate! Michelle and Jay hightened their Southern theme by setting up a picnic in the apartment. It was the perfect setting and theme since sadly the oil spill was on a lot of our minds. Jay actually emailed me pictures of the supper so I will be posting them shortly.

This weekend we have George and Alex hosting their supper cub - I'll be sure to post lots of details!
