Supper Club 2010

For the past 2 years, I have organized a group called Supper Club. Super original name, I know. My first goal of the club wasn't to make amazing recipes and earn bragging rights. My first goal was to have my friends get to know my future husband's friends better...and you know what, it worked. We are now married (for a year and a 1/2) and our friends know each others names. It's a miracle!

This is my third year hosting Supper Club and I love it so much I've given it an official name, Corrine's Supper Club. I know, it's even more creative than the original. This year we have 21 members and 9 Suppers to schedule. We have a lot of new members, which I'm very excited about, and old members who just can't say no. Every year people move away or have other obligations to fulfill so it's inevitable that not everyone can commit year after year.

I've decided to start this blog because some of the recipes made and challenges overcome (making dinner for 12 in a tiny NYC apartment or a whole Greek meal with 2 burners and a food processor) cannot be over-looked any longer! I've also started this blog to inspire you to start your own Supper Club, with your own original name. It'll be like all the Famous Ray's in the city, or something like that. In a dream world my friends in LA, San Francisco, Boston, Minneapolis, London and Melbourne will all Sykpe in their supper clubs together. Can you imagine how awesome that would be? I sure can.

To get you started I've included my two emails to get Supper Club started for 2010. Yeah this part can get a bit tedious and sometime people think my rules are a bit much, but the end result is a bunch of awesome people getting together to eat delicious savory Suppers every single month (except July, November & December because of weddings and holidays). Who could pass up that?!

So - thank you for your interest and please feel free to spread the word of Corrine's Supper Club. Your off to enjoy great company and amazing feast like our ancestors have been doing for hundreds of years!

EMAIL SENT JANUARY 4TH 2010 - To past supper clubber and friends who had expressed interest in Supper Club in 2010.

Hello Supper Clubbers and Future Supper Clubbers!

Happy New Year! It's already that time of year to start scheduling suppers for Supper Club 2010. Like last year some folks have moved away or moved on from Supper Club so we are looking for some new members (some are included on this email). Please feel free to forward this email on to anyone who might be interested.

Like any good club it needs some rules. This year, I've added a couple of amendments to our original rules. For example, it is imperative that you RSVP this year. Although I think we had a great 2009 Supper Club folks were pretty poor at RSVPing. I know it may not be that hip to RSVP, but it's pretty important and good practice to do so. Also, if you do not think that you will be able to attend at least 4 Suppers (including your own)this might not be the best club for you.

All that said - I really want to keep the club going because I love it and I think you love it too!

Here are the rules of Supper Club:
1. You may host Supper Club as an Individual, couple or with a friend(3max).
2. You must host Supper Club once a year. If you do not host you will not be asked back the following year.
3. As the host of Supper Club you must organize the event. (Set date/time/location).
4. When hosting you must prepare/cook the food. (No ordering).
5. You may bring a guest to Supper Club, but it is suggested that they join Supper Club or host an event in the future.
6. You absolutely MUST RSVP to each supper.
7. At each Supper Club, the guests must provide the beverages. (The host can recommend beverages)
8. When joining Supper Club please indicate any food allergies and if you are a Vegetarian, Vegan or only eat Fish.
9. If you have to cancel hosting a Supper Club you must find a replacement.
10. NEW: It is required to attend at least 4 suppers each year.

Suggestions:
1. When hosting Supper Club you may want to have a theme.
2. When Preparing Supper Club you may want to post the menu in advance.
3. If you ever need any help when hosting a Supper Club, don't hesitate to ask for help!

Now that you know the rules and what you may or may not be getting into...are you in or are you out! There are currently 12 slots available. If you are interested please email me back with the month you are interested in. Once all 12 slots are filled I will send the schedule to the members of the SUPPER CLUB. Be prepared to test your culinary skills and for a tasting extravaganza.

PLEASE REPLY to this email with the Month you are interest in hosting by January 8th!

EMAIL SENT JANUARY 8TH 2010 - CONFIRMING SUPPER CLUB SCHEDULE

Dear Supper Clubbers,

Welcome to Supper Club 2010! I am so excited for a new year of culinary tales, festive feasts and awesome suppers! We have so many new folks this year, it's almost like a new club...a new club of awesome foodies! Since we have more members this year, I've blacked out a few months (July, November and December). However, there will be other events scheduled those months to keep the momentum going.

A couple of new things that I would like to do this year are 1) come up with an official/original name for Supper Club. There are a lot of Supper Clubs out there so I'd like to come up with something unique - so start thinking of ideas and share your thoughts! 2) I'd like to document every Supper Club, either with a blog or FB page - have your cameras ready!

Here is the official schedule below. Dates and times are TBD and groups can still switch months if both parties agree to the switch. Drum roll please...

Supper Club 2010 Schedule

January 23rd (Saturday) - Roxanne - 3rd year
February - Bethany & Elizabeth - 1st year
March - Rachael & Kelsey (Angela Joined later on) - 1st year
April - Colleen, Kevin & Mariah - 3rd year
May - Michelle & Jay - 1st year
June - George & Schneider - 3rd year
July - Supper Club BBQ - Prospect Park!
August - Timothy, Kelli & Jeremy - 1st year
September - Corrine & Alex - 3rd year
October - Jessica & Rob - 1st Year
November - Supper Club Restaurant Night
December - Corrine & Alex's Christmas Party

I'm still waiting to hear back from one couple who I thought was a definite this year - so there might be a slight schedule change. Regarding the BBQ, Restaurant Night and of course our Christmas party I will be handling the logistics. July and December never seem to be a good time for Supper Club because folks are either traveling or have family engagements.

Also since the club is larger this year, please do not hesitate to ask for additional help if you need it. AND please please please RSVP to every Supper Club.

See you January 23rd!

Corrine
